Other:	Description of Detroit Edison Research Vessel Activities Since 1969 Detroit Edison has used research vessels to conduct studies of the water quality and biology of southern Lake Huron, St. Clair and Detroit Rivers and western Lake Erie. ?Research IV? is a 26 foot MonArk modified for collecting samples of water, sediment, plankton, bottom-dwelling animals, fish and for supporting activities of the Detroit Edison dive team. In addition to routine monitoring, ?Research IV? has teamed with regulatory and resource agencies on a number of recent studies. Several studies of endangered freshwater mussels and two ?exotic? species (Asian clams and zebra mussels) were conducted on the St. Clair and Detroit Rivers in collaboration with the University of Windsor, City of Detroit, Michigan DNR, NOAA and the USGS Great Lakes Science Center in Ann Arbor. ?Research IV? participated in EPA-sponsored studies of round gobies and tube-nose gobies (exotic fish introduced from central Europe) conducted by the Great Lakes Research Institute at the University of Michigan. Detroit Edison also collaborated with NOAA and USGS to study the return of fishflies (those slippery, stinky flies all too familiar to residents around Lake St. Clair) to western Lake Erie.
